St.Gallen is Switzerland's eighth largest city and, in terms of population, one of the youngest. The city's population density is comparatively low. St.Gallen covers 40 km², of which around 50 percent is green space.

St.Gallen is in the east of Switzerland: a few kilometres south of Lake Constance and almost 30 kilometres north of its favourite mountain, Säntis. St.Gallen is also at the heart of Europe with excellent regional, national and international transport links.

St.Gallen is known far and wide as a textile city thanks to names such as Akris AG or Forster Rohner AG. The University of St.Gallen (HSG) and two universities of applied sciences underline St.Gallen's reputation as a first-class centre of learning. The historic Abbey of St.Gall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, together with the internationally acclaimed CSIO St.Gallen show-jumping tournament, put the city on the international map decades ago. St.Gallen is also a congress and healthcare centre, made famous by various internationally significant events.
