Quite sustainable: The Energy competence network
The question of alternatives is becoming pressing as fossil fuels become scarcer. For the City of St.Gallen, the sustainable answer is geothermal power. Through this project, the city has begun implementation of a key pillar of its ambitious Energy Concept 2050 neues Fenster.
From energy city to competence centre
Already in 2008, St.Gallen received the European Energy Award neues Fensterin Gold, the highest honour for an “energy city”. The consistent and dynamic implementation of the Geothermal Energy Project neues Fensterhas seen it take on a pioneering role in energy policy. Through the Chair for Management of Renewable Energies neues Fenster of the University of St.Gallen (HSG), a top-grade partner is on hand to help in setting up a knowledge network for renewable energies.
The energy sector, with around two thirds of employees, comprises the biggest share of the energy competence network.
Growing significance
With the excellent backing of the city’s population and the infectious vision of the geothermal energy project, the ideal conditions are in place for St.Gallen to become an energy competence centre. Existing players and activities form the current network that is due for strong expansion in future.
