Quite sustainable: The Energy competence network

Value Chain of the energy competence network

Through its 2050 Energy Concept, St.Gallen is aiming to reduce energy consumption to 2,000 watts and carbon dioxide emission to one ton per person per year. The concept rests on three pillars: careful use of precious energy resources, more efficient use of energy through measures in buildings and devices, and greater use of renewable energies. The concept identifies 150 measures, many of which are already being realized.

From energy city to competence centre

Already in 2008, St.Gallen received the European Energy Award in Gold, the highest honour for an “energy city”. As the geothermal project did not provide the expected results, other measures from the energy concept, namely heat energy coupling and the modernization of the refuse-powered cogeneration plant, have become more important.

Through the Chair for Management of Renewable Energies of the University of St.Gallen (HSG), a top-grade partner is on hand to help in setting up a knowledge network for renewable energies.
