Health Insurance
Deutsch

People resident in Switzerland are subject to compulsory health insurance. All family members, adults and children alike, are individually insured. People residing in Switzerland must become insured within three months of entering the country. Parents of newborn children are also subject to the same deadline for insuring their child. You are free to choose your insurance provider.

Exemption from insurance obligations

Students or doctoral candidates, for instance, who remain in Switzerland for a short stay, can be exempted from compulsory health insurance. The Health Insurance Supervisory Authority needs to obtain several documents in order to reach a verdict, depending on the person’s personal situation.
